Poker Tutorial
If you want to play poker online, you need to know the basics and run through a poker tutorial. The first thing you need to learn is the rankings of various poker hands.
The highest possible hand is a royal flush. A royal flush is an Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, all suited. Next you have the straight flush. A straight flush features suited cards in sequential order and it beats four of a kind. A full house has three of a kind combined with two pairs but it can be beaten by four of a kind. A full house beats a flush, which is five cards of the same suit and a flush beats a straight, which is five cards of different suits sequenced in ascending order. Three of a kind is better than a pair and if nobody has a hand, then the high card takes the pot.
There are many variations to the game of poker. In video poker, players are dealt five cards and they get to choose which cards they want to keep and which cards they want to exchange. Winning hands are paid out according to the video poker machine’s pay schedules.
In Texas Hold’em, players are each dealt two cards. Each player can use any of five community cards on the table, in order to form the best poker hand.
In Seven Card Stud, players try to form the best five card poker hand using the seven cards that they have been dealt. Players are first dealt three cards each, two cards facing down and one card facing up. After a round of betting, players are dealt three more cards (all face down) and one final card (face up). With so many cards sitting on the table, players have a lot of information to process. This makes Seven Card Stud an acquired taste among poker aficionados.
